On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, which is marked annually on 1 October, the National Bureau of Statistics presents information on the situation of the elderly, according to the data available for 2023.
At the beginning of 2024, 610.7 thousand people aged 60 years and over were living in the Republic of Moldova, which is 25.2% of the total population of usual residence. Of the total number of the elderly people, 367.7 thousand persons were women (or 60.2%), every third person was aged 60-64 years (31.0%), and 59.8 thousand persons (or 9.8%) constituted persons over the age of 80.
