The activity of higher education institutions in the academic year 2018/19
National Bureau of Statistics informs that, the higher education institutions network have a total of 29 units including 19 state and 10 non-state institutions. Most of them, mainly 25 units are located in Chişinău municipality and 1 unit each in Balţi, Cahul, Comrat and Taraclia.
The number of 60,6 thousand (excluding foreigners) of students was registered at the beginning of the 2018/19 school year, decreasing about 5 thousand compared to the previous year. The figures include 50,6 thousand of students within state institutions and represent4,7 thousand persons or 8,5%) and in the private ones (by 0,2 thousand persons or 2,1%). The analysis approach of gender distribution shows a higher proportion of female population (57,9%).
