National Bureau of Statistics informs that, average consumer prices in August 2023 decreased in comparison with July 2023 with about 0,1%, being marked a further reduction of the monthly inflation rate, registered since June 2023.
Respectively, annual inflation in August 2023 (compared to August 2022) amounted to 9,7%, decreasing by 1,1 percentage points compared to the level recorded in July this year compared to July 2022 (10,8%).
Monthly inflation
The average consumer prices in August 2023 compared to July 2023 decreased by about 0,1% (informative: in August 2022 compared to July 2022, average prices increased by 0,9%).
Average consumer prices in August 2023 compared to July 2023 increased to:
- non-food goods, by about 0,4%, contributing to the increase in average consumer prices by 0,2%;
- services supplied to households by 0,2%, contributing to the decrease in average consumer prices by 0,1%.
In August 2023 compared to July 2023, among food products, more marked decreases in average consumer prices were marked in vegetables - by 8,7%, fruit - by 1,5%, sugar - by 1,1%, vegetable oil - by 1,0%. At the same time, during the period under review, price increases were recorded for chicken eggs - by 17,2%.
In non-food goods, average consumer prices of fuels and combustibles increased in the reporting period - by 3,4% (including diesel - by 10,5% and gasoline - by 3,9%), clothing - by 0,4%.
At the same time, in services provided to the population, in August 2023 compared to July 2023 the prices of drinking water supply and sewerage services increased - by 4,0%, and passenger transport services - by 3,7%.
At the same time, more marked decreases in prices (tariffs) in the current month were recorded for regulated2 electricity supply tariffs - by 2,6%.
Cumulative inflation from the beginning of the year
Average consumer prices in August 2023 compared to December 2022 (from the beginning of this year) increased by 3,5%, including food - by 2,2%, non-food goods - by 2,5% and household services - by 7,1%.
Annual inflation
Average consumer prices in August 2023 compared to August 2022 (over the last 12 months) increased by 9,7%, including food by 9,6%, non-food goods by 5,5% and household services by 16,3%.
