Consumer price indices in the Republic of Moldova in July 2023

National Bureau of Statistics informs that average consumer prices in July 2023 compared to June 2023 decreased by about 0,8%.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, average consumer prices in July 2023 decreased in comparison with June 2023 with 0,8%, being marked a continuous reduction of the monthly inflation rate (after the decrease of average consumer prices in June 2023 compared to May 2023 with 0,5%).

Respectively, annual inflation in July 2023 (compared to July 2022) amounted to 10.8%, decreasing by 2.4 percentage points compared to the level recorded in June this month compared to June 2022 (13.2%).

Monthly inflation

The average consumer prices in July 2023 compared to June 2023 decreased by about 0,8% (informative: in July 2022 compared to June 2022, average prices increased by 1,4%).

The decrease in average consumer prices was driven by decreases in:

- food products by about 1,2%, contributing to the decrease in average consumer prices by 0,5%;

- household services by 2,3%, contributing to the decrease in average consumer prices by 0,6%.

Average consumer prices of non-food goods in July 2023 compared to June 2023 increased by about 0,6%, contributing to the increase of average consumer prices by 0,3%.

In July 2023 compared to June 2023, among food products, more marked decreases in average consumer prices were marked in vegetables - by 15,6%, sugar - by 0,9%, vegetable oil - by 0,4%. At the same time, during the period under review, price increases were recorded for chicken eggs - by 10,8%.

More pronounced decreases in prices (tariffs) for services provided to the population in July compared to June 2023 were recorded in regulated tariffs2 for the supply of natural gas - by 12,6%, electricity - by 10,2% and heat - by 8,1%, contributing to the decrease in average consumer prices by 0,6%. At the same time, in July 2023 compared to June 2023 prices for passenger transport services increased - by 0,3%.

In non-food goods, average consumer prices of fuels and combustibles increased in the reported period - by 1,2% (including diesel - by 5,9% and gasoline - by 2,2%), construction materials - by 0,4%, clothing - by 0,3%.

Cumulative inflation from the beginning of the year

Average consumer prices in July 2023 compared to December 2022 (from the beginning of this year) increased by 3,6%, including food - by 3,0%, non-food goods - by 2,1% and household services - by 6,8%.

Annual inflation

Average consumer prices in July 2023 compared to July 2022 (over the last 12 months) increased by 10,8%, including food by 11,5%, non-food goods by 5,4% and household services by 18,1%.
