Scope and general objectives:

Strengthening the statistical evidence base by increasing the volume of high-quality official statistics produced in the Eastern Partnership countries in line with the European Statistics Code of Practice and the Eastern Partnership objectives.

Core activities and components:

Priority areas of the project:

Economic statistics: macro-economic statistics, government finance statistics, foreign trade statistics, entrepreneurship statistics, price statistics, transportation statistics, energy statistics and agricultural statistics.

Social statistics: demography statistics, labor market statistics, poverty statistics, gender statistics, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) statistics (For the 3 countries with EU Association Agreements, the national framework of SDG indicators should be developed based on the UN and EU frameworks.)

Statistical governance: organization and management of the national statistical system (legal framework and planning of statistical activities), quality, human resources management and training, relations with users.

Activities aim to achieve four main results in the partner countries:

1. Improved production and dissemination of high-quality statistics in line with international and European standards;

2. Harmonization of statistical methodologies with international and European standards;

3. Strengthening the institutional capacity of the NSIs in the region in accordance with the principles set out in the European Statistics Code of Standards;

4. Support evidence-based policy making, ensuring that statistical evidence underpins policy actions by improving cooperation and coordination between NSIs, policy makers and relevant institutions.

Achievements:

  • Webinar on monitoring labor markets during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown: essential content of the labor force survey and treatment of special groups
  • Training on access to microdata for researchers - lessons learned used in the development of the NBS Regulation on access to microdata for scientific purposes
  • Improved production and dissemination of good quality statistics - Knowledge gained was used in the development of quality guidelines for statistical products and statistical processes at the NBS.
  • Workshop on conducting household surveys in labor statistics - The knowledge gained in this course was used to improve the CBGC questionnaires, namely chapter 4 of the main questionnaire "Occupation of household members".
  • On-line training courses on EU Research on ICT use in enterprises and Development of road freight transport statistics. 
  • Beneficial trainings in activities related to alignment with EU standards and development of research tools/methodologies in the areas of freight transport statistics and ICT in enterprises.
  • Training course on the EU Business Registers Regulation and Recommendations Manual Business Registers Training Course:

- 34 regional activities initiated;

- 2 regional publications (gender and energy);

- 2 virtual groups (NSS coordination, STATA);

- 2 workshops;

- 8 trainings;

- 5 on-site regional activities;

- 15 regional online activities.
