In the 2024/25 study year, there are 16 higher education institutions, of which 12 public higher education institutions (8 units in in the municipality of Chisinau and 1 unit each – in the municipalities of Balti, Cahul, Comrat and the city of Taraclia) and 4 private higher education institutions – all in the municipality of Chisinau.
The National Bureau of Statistics informs at the beginning of 2024/25 study year were active 1185 institutions of primary and general secondary education, inclusive: 88 primary schools, 752 gymnasiums, 337 lyceums, 6 schools for children with mental or physical handicap and 2 evening schools, the number of pupils in primary and general secondary education amounted to 335.1 thousand persons, of which 334.1 thousand persons study in day schools and 1.0 thousand persons in evening schools.
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that in 2022 the number of active enterprises constituted 41,5 thousand enterprises, or 4,3% more than in 2021, the largest share in the total number of active enterprises was registered by enterprises in the sector of wholesale and retail trade, constituting 39,6% of the total number of active enterprises, data for 2021 have been revised based on additional information available for 2023.
National Bureau of Statistics informs, that in October 2024 compared to October 2023 industrial production (gross series) decreased by 8,5%, in January-October 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year industrial production (gross series) decreased by 0,2%.
The Statistical yearbook "Chisinau in figures" is the most complete publication, which comprises statistical data regarding the demographic, social and economic situation of the municipality. The yearbook is structured in 15 chapters, containing information from various fields: general data, population, labour force, population incomes and expenditures, education, culture and sport, health protection and social protection, dwellings and public utilities, environment, justice.
Industrial production price indices
National Bureau of Statistics informs that in November 2024 producer prices in industry, increased with 0,1% compared to October this year, decreased with 1,3% since the beginning of the current year; decreased with 1,1% compared to November 2023.
The publication is developed based on the results of structural business survey and presents the main indicators of business activity in the Republic of Moldova, including types of activity, forms of ownership, size classes, and regional aspect.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that, according to the results of the ,,Labor Force Survey” (LFS), in the third quarter of 2024, young people aged between 15-34 years were represented by the following categories of people: young people neither in employment nor in education and training (NEET), the proportion of which was 25,5%, of the total (-3.1 p.p. compared to the third quarter of 2023).
Exports of goods in October 2024 were amounted to 330,9 million USD, with 17,9% more than in September 2024 and 3,2% less than in October 2023. Exports of goods in January-October 2024, amounted to 2949,7 million USD, which is 12,2% less than in the corresponding period of 2023.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that the preliminary estimations of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2024 constituted 90.9 billion lei, in current market prices, decreasing (in real terms) by 1.9% as compared to the third quarter of 2023, in January-September 2024 totalled 233.1 billion lei, in current market prices, increasing (in real terms) by 0.6% as compared to the corresponding period of 2023.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that for employees who worked the entire month of September and the full day, in real sector units with 4 or more employees and all budgetary institutions: the average gross monthly salary in September amounted to 13,499.7 lei; approximately 3 out of 4 employees (74.1%) had salaries of more than 7,000 lei, and every fourth employee (25.9%) had salaries of up to 7,000 lei.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that, according to the results of the ”Labour Force Survey” (LFS), in the third quarter of 2024 the population outside the labour force aged 15 and over was 1088,6 thousand persons, decreasing by 2.1% compared to the third quarter of 2023, the inactivity rate of the population aged 15 and over was 54.5%, increasing by 0.5 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2023.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, according to the results of the survey ,,Labour Force Survey (LFS), in the third quarter 2024": the labour force (active population aged 15 years and over) was 910,2 thousand persons, which is 3.9% less than in the third quarter of 2023; the employed population aged 15 and over was 877.0 thousand persons, 3.4% less than in third quarter 2023; the unemployment rate for the country as a whole amounted to 3.6%, decreasing by 0.5 percentage points, compared to the third quarter of 2023 (4.1%).

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in the real sector units with 4 or more employees and all budgetary institutions, in the third quarter of 2024: the average gross monthly earnings amounted to 14116,8 lei, and increased by 14,2% compared to the third quarter of 2023 and by 0,3% compared to the second quarter of 2024; the index of real earnings (calculated as the ratio of the index of gross nominal earnings and the consumer price index), compared to the third quarter of 2023, amounted to 108,7%, which means that earnings increased in real terms by 8,7%.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that in January-September 2024, investments in long-term assets amounting to 21,3 billion lei, increasing by 2,6% (in comparable prices), compared to January-September 2023, of which: investments in tangible assets amouting to 20,5 billion lei (increasing by 2,0%), investments in intangible assets amouting to 0,8 billion lei (increasing by 21,7%)

The National Bureau of Statistics informs that insurance companies in January-September 2024 compared to the same period last year: received accrued gross premiums by 10,9% more; paid out insurance indemnities and compensations by 26,0% more.
