National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in january-march 2025, investments in long-term assets amounting to 6,3 billion lei, or 23,9% more than in january-march 2024 (in comparable prices), of which investments in tangible assets amouting to 5,8 billion lei, or an increase of 19,8% investments in intangible assets amouting to 0.5 billion lei, an increase of 2,1 times.
To analyse poverty as a complex phenomenon, a wide range of monetary and non-monetary indicators, including multidimensional approaches, are used internationally. In the Republic of Moldova, monetary poverty is calculated using the absolute poverty estimation method, based on household consumption expenditure collected by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) through the Household Budget Survey (HBS).
As of January 1, 2025, the number of children aged 0–17 in the Republic of Moldova accounted for 494.1 thousand1, representing 20.7% of the usual resident population. The number of live births in 2024 was 23.6 thousand2, marking a decrease of 2.0% compared to 2023.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that the number of registered deaths in 2024, according to provisional data, was 33,5 thousand, decreasing with 0,3 thousand (or 0,8%) compared to 2023.
Public water supply and sewerage systems
National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in 2024, the total length of aqueducts and public water distribution networks amounted to 21,6 thousand km and, compared to the previous year, expanded by 3,0% or 561,0 km of newly built networks (with 52,2 km in urban areas and 506,8 km in rural areas).
The National Bureau of Statistics reports that in January-March 2025, public transport companies transported 82.3 million passengers, 10.3% more than in the same period last year. This evolution was due to the increase in the number of passengers transported by air (+31.4%), river (+14.9%), trolleybus (+11.1%) and road transport (+10.3%).
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that insurance companies in January-March 2025 compared to the same period last year received accrued gross premiums by 4,9% less, paid out insurance indemnities and compensations by 0,8% less.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that in 2024 the number of live births was 23,6 thousand persons, decreasing by 0,5 thousand children (or 2,0%) compared to 2023. Of the number of live-born children, 51,3% were boys, with a sex ratio of 105 boys per 100 girls.
According to the latest Open Data Inventory (ODIN) 2024/25 assessment by Open Data Watch organization, the Republic of Moldova ranked 17th globally out of 198 countries and 3rd in Eastern Europe in terms of coverage and openness of official statistical data. Moldova received an overall score of 79 out of 100, an improvement of 3 points compared to the previous edition.
Industrial production price indices
National Bureau of Statistics informs that in April 2025 producer prices in industry increased with 0,5% compared to March this year, increased with 5,0% since the beginning of the current year, increased with 5,2% compared to April 2024.
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in January-March 2025, the volume of construction works increased compared to January-March 2024 by 18.7% (in comparable prices), as a result of the increase in the structural elements of the works, as follows capital repairs by 59.7%, new construction by 10.0%, maintenance and current repairs by 8.6%, other construction works (demolition, land development up to construction, etc.) by 17.8%.
National Bureau of Statistics informs, that in March 2025 compared to March 2024 industrial production (gross series) increased by 0,1%, in January-March 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year industrial production (gross series) decreased by 1,2%.
The National Bureau of Statistics reports that in January-March 2025, collective tourist accommodation structures were visited by 89.6 thousand tourists (6.4% more than in the same period of 2024 year), including 35.1 thousand resident tourists (39.2% of the total) and 54.5 thousand (60.8%) non-resident tourists.
The delegation of the National Bureau of Statistics led by Oleg Cara, Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), participated in the 2025 High Level Seminar (HLS) on statistical cooperation for the countries of the European Neighbourhood Policy East and Central Asia Countries (ENP-East and CAC), on the theme „Official statistics in a changing world: value, efficiency and readiness for the future of statistics”.
Exports of goods in March 2025 were amounted to 299,1 million USD, with 11,2% more than in February 2025 and with 6,6% less compared to March 2024. Exports of goods in January-March 2025, amounted to 811,5 million USD, which is 11,9% less than in the corresponding period of 2024.
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in January-March 2025, the number of visitors (tourists and excursionists), participants in tourism organized by travel agencies and tour operators amounted to 59.2 thousand people (8.7% more than in January-March 2024), of which inbound tourism (receiving foreign citizens into the country) recorded 12.6 thousand people (+61.7% compared to January-March 2024),
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that average consumer prices in April 2025 increased compared to March 2025 by 0.9%, December 2024 by 4.6%, April 2024 (during the last 12 months) by 7.8%.
On the occasion of Europe Day, the day of peace and unity in Europe, celebrated annually on May 9, the National Bureau of Statistics presents the statistical data "Republic of Moldova (RM) versus European Union (EU-27)".
On May 5th, a meeting took place at the NBS with representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Moldova - Dr. Karina A. Nersesyan, Country Representative, Natalia Plugaru, Deputy Country Representative and Igor Condrat, Programme Analyst on Census.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that in 2024 the area of green spaces in urban localities accounted for 6.6 thousand ha, while the municipality of Chisinau has the largest area of green spaces (66.1%), the total length of illuminated urban streets amounted to 3.5 thousand km, and the overall street lighting coverage at the national level accounted for 82.7%.
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that in 2024, 879.2 thousand contraventions were recorded, which is 16.4% more than in the previous year. In most cases, punishments were applied (95.2% or 836.8 thousand cases). On average, there are 345 decisions on the application of punishment for contraventions per 1000 people.
Sales indices of agricultural production prices
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that producer prices for agricultural products in January-March 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 increased on average by 30.5% (see Table 1), including prices for plant products increased on average by 44.1%, prices for animal products decreased on average by 1.8%.
Oleg Cara, the General Director of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), participated on April 30th at the international Webinar titled „Leveraging the Transformative Power of Official Multidimensional Poverty Statistics for Social Development”, organized by the Global network for the study of Multidimensional Poverty - Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN), whose activity is facilitated by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in January-March 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, overall agricultural production in households of all categories decreased by 9,5% (in comparable prices) as a result of the decrease in livestock production by 10,0%, the share of which in the total volume of agricultural production constituted 97,4%.
