Eurostat and NBS experts discuss activities within the International Comparison Program (ICP)
During 27–28 March 2025, the expert from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), Mr. Martin Somov, visited the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in the context of the Republic of Moldova’s participation in the International Comparison Program (ICP).
The mission of the international expert aimed to analyse the progress made by the Republic of Moldova within the framework of the ICP 2024 and to prepare for integration into Eurostat's Purchasing Power Parity programme.
During the mission, the expert held discussions with NBS experts on the organisation of activities related to purchasing power parities and analysed the availability of data that our country, alongside EU Member States and candidate countries, provides to Eurostat, as well as the additional data that Moldova is expected to collect and submit in the framework of the ICP 2024 activities.
At the same time, the expert made recommendations for the improvement of data collection and validation processes.
We inform that the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the International Comparison Programme and the European Comparison Programme provides new opportunities for economic integration and comparability with other countries at the European and international level. Since 2023, the Republic of Moldova has become a member of the group of countries participating in the ICP, as part of the Eurostat-Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) group of countries, gradually integrating into the ICP 2024 cycle. The main objective of Moldova's participation in the ICP is to calculate the purchasing power parity of the national currency in relation to other countries of the world.
