More than 60 TUM students were familiarized with the methodology of calculation of the Consumer Price Index and career development opportunities at NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) maintains an active collaboration with the Technical University of Moldova (TUM), participating in several meetings with the university's students and professors, in order to familiarize them with the institution's activity, employment opportunities and internship.

This time, the NBS responded to TUM's invitation. In this context, on November 19, Elizaveta Todică, head of the Consumer Price Statistics Division, gave a presentation dedicated to the methodology of calculating inflation in the Republic of Moldova for the professors and students of the 2nd and 3rd year of the Faculty of Economic and Business Engineering within the university.

The statistician presented in a clear and accessible way the main concepts related to CPI and inflation rate, highlighting the link between them. The presentation addressed issues related to Selective Price Research, on the basis of which the CPI is calculated, the structure of the consumer basket, the timing of data dissemination and the role of this fundamental indicator in measuring price developments, monitoring purchasing power and assessing inflation.

At the same time, students were familiarized with the availability of data in the field of consumer prices and the simple ways to access them through the official website www.statistica.gov.md, the Data Bank http://statbank.statistica.md and the interactive tools launched by the NBS, such as the Consumer Price Index Calculator or the Inflation Calculator and the Dashboard, which allows dynamic and interactive visualization of data after years, months, groups of goods and services.

In the second part of the meeting, Ana Rotaru, senior consultant of the Human Resources Division, spoke about the opportunities for developing a career at the NBS, including paid internship and other forms of professional involvement. At the request of the students, he provided details about the vacant positions, the application procedure, the way of submitting the documents, the benefits offered by the institution, such as training opportunities, professional development and the opportunity to interact with specialists and experts from the country and abroad, etc.

We would like to mention that meetings with students and teachers from educational institutions are organized in order to better understand the informational needs of the academic environment and to promote the knowledge and use of official statistics. These actions are part of the National Statistical System Development Strategy, which includes among its objectives the growth of statistical culture, including among pupils and students.
