World Statistics Day 2025 „Quality statistics and data for everyone”, 20 October 2025
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announces that on 20 October 2025, the World Statistics Day (WSD) will be celebrated – an event held every five years under the auspices of the United Nations –to highlight the essential role of quality data and statistics in decision-making and sustainable development.
This year’s edition, the fourth at the global level, is held under the theme „Quality statistics and data for everyone”, emphasising the importance of credible, accessible and inclusive data in supporting progress for all.
The World Statistics Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution A/RES/64/267 of 3 June 2010 and was first celebrated on 20 October 2010. In the same year, in the Republic of Moldova, the Government Decision No 934 of 8 October 2010 established the Professional Statistician’s Day, celebrated annually at the national level on the same date.
Global Online Event
On the occasion of World Statistics Day, for the first time, the five UN Regional Commissions will jointly organise a 24-hour global webinar bringing together national statistical offices, international organizations, academia, and civil society.
The segment dedicated to Europe (UNECE) will take place between 16:00 to 21:00 (Moldovan time) and will highlight examples of best practices, innovations and collaborations in the field of official statistics. Follow the NBS page or NBS social networks for more details.
