External Audit Reconfirms: The NBS Complies with High International ISO Standards in Information Security and Data Protection

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) continues to ensure the highest level of data security and confidentiality. Following a recent external surveillance audit, it was reconfirmed that the institution’s management system in the field of “Production of Official Statistics” is fully compliant with leading international standards:
- ISO/IEC 27001:2022 (Information Security);
- ISO/IEC 27701:2019 (Personal Data Protection and Privacy).
The audit team concluded that the management system implemented by the NBS is effectively maintained and continuously improved in line with best practices, and is capable of fully meeting all applicable regulatory requirements.
An important aspect assessed during this process was the NBS’s successful transition from the previous version of the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standard to the updated and significantly more rigorous ISO/IEC 27001:2022, as well as the alignment of ISO/IEC 27701:2019 with the latest edition, ISO/IEC 27701:2025.
Maintaining these certifications provides a strong assurance to both respondents (individuals and legal entities) and holders of administrative and private data sources, that the information supplied to the Bureau is processed securely. The use of individual data is carried out in strict compliance with national legislation and international standards and serves exclusively the purpose of producing official statistics.
It should be mentioned that the NBS obtained its first certificates of conformity with ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 in 2022, and successfully completed the recertification process in 2025. The periodic surveillance audit confirms the sustainability and maturity of the institution’s processes.
The external audit mission, conducted between April and May 2026, was carried out with the financial support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Moldova, a strategic partner in the modernization of the national statistical system.
