Passenger and freight transport in January-September 2024
The National Bureau of Statistics reports that in January-September 2024, public transport companies transported 229.7 million passengers, 14.8% more than in the same period last year. This evolution was due to the increase in the number of passengers transported by road (+28.3%), air (+19.5%) and trolleybus transport (+8.7%). At the same time, the number of passengers carried by railway (-20.0%) and river transport (-6.2%) decreased during the analyzed period. Passenger turnover increased by 9.4% and amounted to 4,688.4 million passenger-km.
In January-September 2024, rail, road, river and air transport enterprises transported 8.9 million tons of cargo, which is 4.4% higher than in January- September 2023. In the reporting period, the volume of cargo transported by air (+17.6%), road (+14.5%) and river transport (+2.9%) increased. At the same time, the volume of cargo transported by rail transport (-32.9%) and decreased. Cargo turnover of transport enterprises amounted to 4,286.4 million ton-km, which is 1.6% more than in the same period last year.
