National Bureau of Statistics informs that, exports of goods in March 2016 registered a value of 162,0 mio. US dollars, with 17,0% more than in the previous month and with 7,3% less compared to March 2015. Imports of goods in March 2016 registered a value of 395,0 mio. US dollars, with 37,6% more than in the previous month and with 1,8% less compared to March 2015.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in 2015 doctoral studies were conducted in 43 institutions, including 31 research institutes and 19 higher education institutions. In 2015, the number of doctorates represented 1751 persons (excluding foreign students), increasing by 7,6% as compared to 2014 recording the highest level in the last 10 years.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that in January-March 2016, 716 building permits for residential and non-residential buildings were issued, down with 12,1% compared to January-March 2015. Of the total volume, 397 building permits were issued for residential buildings (55,4% of total), of which 385 were issued for private houses (97,0% of the building permits issued for residential buildings).

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, the research and development (R&D) activity in 2015 was conducted in 65 units, of which 40 institutes and/or research centres, 15 higher education institutions and 10 - other types of units. From the total number of units, 51 units or 78% are in state ownership.

Between 19 to 22 April 2016, the STATREG Project organized the first session of the Training of Trainers courses, in the use of regional statistics. Under the programme, participants, the representatives from the National Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Regional Development Agencies (North, Center and South) and the Executive Committee of Gagauzia, have developed their training skills in the use of regional statistics.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, volume index of global agricultural production, in all types of households (agricultural enterprises, farms and population households) in January-March 2016 registered 104,0% compared to January-March 2015. The growth of global agricultural production was caused by an increase of animal production - with 4,0%, with a 99% share of total agricultural production.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in March 2016 enterprises of railway, road, river and air transport, have transported 1060,3 thou. tonnes of goods, with 52,6% more than in the previous month and with 6,2% less compared to March 2015. The turnover of goods in March 2016 summed up 320,6 mio. tonne-km, with 22,1% more than in the previous month and with 10,0% less compared to March 2015.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in March 2016 the producer prices in industry increased with 0,1% compared to February 2016, with 0,7% compared to December 2015 and with 5,6% - compared to March 2015.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in January-February 2016 exports of goods amounted 255,2 mln. USD, while imports of goods amounted 494,4 mln. USD. Compared to the same period of the 2015, exports decreased by 18,5% and imports by 13,8%. The trade balance deficit in January-February 2016 has been of 239,2 mln. USD, lower by 21,2 mln. USD (-8,2%) than that recorded in the corresponding period of 2015.

From April 5th to April 8th, STATREG project organised a training course on small area estimation in the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.This training was delivered by Professor Domingo MORALES GONZALES of the University Miguel Hernández de Elche and trainees came from the National Bureau of Statistics and the Academy of Economic Studies.

National Bureau of Statistics announced that the number of population of the Republic of Moldova on 01.01.2016 amounted to 3,5531 thousand people less than in the same period of 2015 with 2103 people. More than half of the population is represented by rural inhabitants - 2042,0 thousand people, or 57,5%. In urban areas are living 1,5111 thousand persons, or 42,5%. Population by gender takes the next configuration: 51,9% (1844,0 thousand) - female and 48,1% (1,7091 thousand people) - men.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in 2015 the economically active population (employed population plus unemployed persons) of the Republic of Moldova was 1265,6 thousand persons, increased with 2,7% (33,2 thousand) compared to the previous year.

In 2015 the Open Data Watch - Open Data Inventory (ODIN) www.odin.opendatawatch.com assessed the coverage and openness of official statistics in 125 mostly low- and middle-income countries and has developed a report "How open are official statistics?". According to this study, Republic of Moldova has ranked nr.2 in the world and nr. 1 in Europe on coverage and openness of official statistical data.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in 2015 monthly disposable incomes of population summed up in average per person 1956,6 lei, which is with 10,7% more than in 2014. In real terms (adjusted to the consumer price index) population incomes registerd an increase of 0,9%. Monthly population expenditures in 2015 in average per person constituted 2048,5 lei, which is with 12,8% more than in 2014.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, according to the preliminary data, in 2015 gross domestic product (GDP) summed up 121851 million lei, current market prices, and has decreased - in real terms - with 0,5% compared to semifinal data of 2014. In quarter IV 2015, GDB summed up 33011 million lei, current market prices, decreasing - in real terms - with 3,3% comparing to quarter IV 2014 - for gross series.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, that producer prices (average sale prices by agricultural enterprises) of agricultural products in 2015 compared to 2014 increased 22,5%. Average selling prices for plant products increased with 34,4%, for animal products –decreased with 8,9%.
