Measuring the social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of the Republic of Moldova launches an additional module on Household Budget Survey in the context of the crisis generated by COVID-19.

The purpose of the module "Influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the household" is to collect the statistical information to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on households in the Republic of Moldova.Data collection will be carried out on the basis of an additional module on Household Budget Survey (HBS), on the sample of households in the second quarter of 2020. The module questionnaire was developed in collaboration with UNDP (the country and regional office in Istanbul) and experts of World Bank Office (Washington, DC).

The module contains questions about the effects on the economic and social situation that households feel as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, regarding the following relevant issues in the context of the HBS:

  1. Consequences on health, economic activity or mobility;
  2. Difficulties in accessing health products or services;
  3.  Consequences on the financial situation of the household;
  4. Measures taken by households to overcome financial difficulties;
  5. Difficulties in accessing distance education services;
  6. Difficulties related to distance learning.

The information collected by the NBS through this module, combined with the data from the basic HBS, is very important as a source of statistical data of maximum relevance to society in the current context. These can be used to better understand the problems faced by the population, including different types of households, the extent to which the population has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This survey is one of the NBS responses, in collaboration with its partners, provided to society in the current context of the country, and the statistical information obtained will serve to facilitate the analysis of the negative impact of COVID-19 on the economic and social situation of the population and vulnerable groups. and for planning evidence-based measures to remove or reduce it.

All information collected from households in the survey are confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes.

The results of the survey will be published on the official website of the NBS, in the third quarter of 2020, in a generalized form and will not identify any person.

We also inform that, based on the data collected in another statistical survey in households - Labor Force Survey, the NBS is examining the possibilities of assessing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor market situation.

NBS respectfully asks household members to respond to telephone calls and requests from interviewers! Thus, the respondents will contribute to the production of important statistics on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and will help accordingly to find the necessary solutions for the state and society.

More information on the activity of the NBS in relation to the State of Emergency, as well as relevant and useful data in the context of COVID-19, can be found under COVID-19 heading.
