Quality in statistics

Quality Policy of the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova

The goal of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is to present reliable, timely and objective information on economic, demographic, social and environment situation of the Republic of Moldova. Following the Law No. 93 from May 26th, 2017 on official statistics, Chapter VIII, articles 21-22, NBS is committed to continuous assessment and improvement of quality of official statistics: regularly and systematically, the strengths and weaknesses are identified, and the related risks are taken into consideration to develop continuously the Quality Framework. Quality Policy comes to support the Strategy of Development of National Statistical System 2016-2020 and covers the principles, the following of which, guarantees the fact that official statistics corresponds to requirements and principles of European Statistics Code of Practice and United Nations Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.

Institutional Environment

Efficiency and credibility of statistical products is influenced by the organisational and institutional factors. Institutional environment is characterised by professional and institutional independence, legal mandate for data collection, adequacy of resources, quality commitment, data confidentiality and impartiality and objectivity.

Statistical processes

In the process of statistical production, NBS follows European and international standards and best practices. Production process is supported by robust methodology, relevant statistical procedures, monitoring and reducing the excessive burden on respondents and respecting the principle of cost-efficiency.

Statistical Outputs

Published statistics corresponds to Quality standards and serve the needs of central and local public authorities of the Republic of Moldova, international and European organisations, research institutions, economic undertakings and public, in general. Statistical output is characterised by relevance, precision, punctuality, accessibility, comparability and coherence.
