National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in January-March 2016, 40,9 thou. tourists attended the establishments of collective touristic accommodation, of which 18,9 thou. Moldovan tourists (46,1%) and 22,0 thou. foreign tourists (53,9%). In comparison with January-March 2015 the number of tourists has increased (+14,5%), mainly due to the increase of the number of tourists in hotels and motels (+24,5%), holiday camps for children (+20,7%), recreation camps (+13,1%).

The National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in April 2016 the annual inflation (for the last 12 months from April 2015 to April 2016) registered 8,3%, including: food products – 9,3%, nonfood products – 7,2% and services – 7,8%. Also the consumer price index (CPI) in April 2016 compared to March 2016 registered 100,0%, (in April 2015 compared to March 2015, CPI registered 101,0% and compared to April 2014 - 107,6%).

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in 2015 by leasing companies were leased out fixed assets with total value of 1089,2 mio. Lei or with 18 mio. Lei (with 1,7%) more than in 2014. The major part of fixed assets leased out were the transport means with a value of 981,8 mio. Lei (or 90,1% of total), of which automobiles constituted 824,2 mio.Lei.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, visitor arrivals to the Republic of Moldova reached 652,3 thousand data recorded crossing the state border for January-March 2016, in particular with a growth of 54,0% up from the similar period of 2015. Moldovan visitors' departures abroad registered crossing the state borders came to 1153,1 thousand from January-March 2016, with 0,7% less than in the same period of 2015.

US dollars, with 17,0% more than in the previous month and with 7,3% less compared to March 2015. Imports of goods in March 2016 registered a value of 395,0 mio. US dollars, with 37,6% more than in the previous month and with 1,8% less compared to March 2015.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that in January-March 2016, 716 building permits for residential and non-residential buildings were issued, down with 12,1% compared to January-March 2015. Of the total volume, 397 building permits were issued for residential buildings (55,4% of total), of which 385 were issued for private houses (97,0% of the building permits issued for residential buildings).

In 2015, the number of doctorates represented 1751 persons (excluding foreign students), increasing by 7,6% as compared to 2014 recording the highest level in the last 10 years.

Between 19 to 22 April 2016, the STATREG Project organized the first session of the Training of Trainers courses, in the use of regional statistics. Under the programme, participants, the representatives from the National Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Regional Development Agencies (North, Center and South) and the Executive Committee of Gagauzia, have developed their training skills in the use of regional statistics.

The growth of global agricultural production was caused by an increase of animal production - with 4,0%, with a 99% share of total agricultural production.

Compared to the same period of the 2015, exports decreased by 18,5% and imports by 13,8%. The trade balance deficit in January-February 2016 has been of 239,2 mln. USD, lower by 21,2 mln. USD (-8,2%) than that recorded in the corresponding period of 2015.

From April 5th to April 8th, STATREG project organised a training course on small area estimation in the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova.This training was delivered by Professor Domingo MORALES GONZALES of the University Miguel Hernández de Elche and trainees came from the National Bureau of Statistics and the Academy of Economic Studies.

National Bureau of Statistics announced that the number of population of the Republic of Moldova on 01.01.2016 amounted to 3,5531 thousand people less than in the same period of 2015 with 2103 people. More than half of the population is represented by rural inhabitants - 2042,0 thousand people, or 57,5%. In urban areas are living 1,5111 thousand persons, or 42,5%. Population by gender takes the next configuration: 51,9% (1844,0 thousand) - female and 48,1% (1,7091 thousand people) - men.

US dollars, with 18,6% more than in the previous month and with 16,3% less compared to February 2015. Imports of goods in February 2016 registered a value of 287,0 mio. US dollars, with 38,4% more than in the previous month and with 5,7% less compared to February 2015.
