National Bureau of Statistics informs that in 2008 the economically active population (employed population and unemployed persons) of the Republic of Moldova was 1302,8 thousand persons, slightly less with 0,8% compared to the year 2007. The decrease was caused by the decrease in the number of unemployed persons with 15 thousand.

National Bureau of Statistics inform that the average sale prices of agricultural products by agricultural enterprises in 2008 compared to previous year have decreased with 14,2%.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that in January-February 2009 industrial enterprises of all types of ownership, produced goods to the amount of 3297,72 mio. lei, in current prices. The volume index of industrial production in comparison with January-February 2008 constituted 73,7% (comparable prices). In February 2009 in comparison with February 2008 this index constituted 72,9%.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that in February 2009 retail sales of goods by all channels of sale summed up 1318,7 mio. lei, a decrease of 4,2% in comparison with previous month and of 6,3% in comparison with February 2008.
National Bureau of Statistics informs that in January-February 2009 enterprises of railway, road, river and air transport, have transported 948,9 thou. tonnes of goods, or 38,6% of the total volume realized in same period of the previous year. The decrease of the volume of transported goods has been registered by railway (-67,6%), road transport (-44,8%) and air (-20,8%) transport.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in 2008 there were recorded 24.8 thou. crimes or with 1.7% more than in 2007. The majority of crimes were recorded in the rural area - 66% from total crimes recorded. Per 10 thou. inhabitants there were registered in average 67 crimes, this index has been decreasing since 2000.
Industrial production price indices
National Bureau of Statistics informs that in February 2009 the prices in total for industry have decreased compared to January 2009 with 3,0%. In comparison with December 2008 the industrial production price index has decreased with 4,1%, andwith 4,7% in comparison with February 2008.
For the first time it has been published on the official webpage of the National Bureau of Statistics statistical data regarding the Consumption of foodstuff products per capita in average for 1981-1990 and annual time series for 1990-2007.

The National Bureau of Statistics presents data regarding the Consumer Price Indices (the level of inflation). In February 2009 compared to January 2009 average consumer prices registered 99,0%, and 103,1% compared to February 2008 (in February 2008 compared to January 2008 average consumer price registered 101,5% and 114,8% compared to February 2007).
National Bureau of Statistics presents data on remuneration of employees in the Republic of Moldova. In January 2009 the average salary of one employee in national economy constituted 2555 MDL and it increased compared to the same period of the previous year with 12,8% (the real salary in the same period of time increased with about 6,7%). In the budgetary sector the average salary was 2096 MDL, in the real economy sector - 2834 MDL.
The National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in year 2008 tourism agencies and tour-operators have provided tourism services to 142,3 thousand tourists and excursionists, with 5,1% more that in the year 2007. This increase was determined by the increase in the number of tourists and excursionists participants at the internal tourism (7,5%) and issuer tourism (4,0%). However, receiver tourism has registered a decrease of 9,2%.

The National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in the IV-th quarter 2008 the economically active population (employed population and unemployed persons) of the Republic of Moldova was of about 1232,3 thousand persons, a decrease of 17,7 thou. or 1,4% compared to the IV-th quarter 2007. The decrease was caused by the decrease in number of unemployed persons with 18,6 thousand. The share of rural population was a bit higher compared to that of urban population (51,5% and, respectively 48,5%).

In January 2009 prices in industry generally have decreased compared to December 2008 with 1,1%. In comparison with January 2008 the industrial production price index have increased by 0,1%.

National Bureau of Statistics informs that, in 2008 the capacity of establishments of collective touristic accomodation constituted 3697,8 thou. places-days, deacresing by 6,1 % comparing to 2007. In the total of the touristic accomodation's capacity the share of hotels and motels was 28,3%, summer camps for pupils - 26,3%, health-care structures -18,6%, touristic villas, recreation camps and other recreation structures - 15,7%, hostels for visitors - 5,6%, tourist and agrotourist pensions - 5,5%.
National Bureau of Statistics announces that at the beginning of 2008/2009 school year, the network of primary and secondary education institutions covered 1526 schools, gymnasiums and lyceums, including 7 evening schools and 1519 day schools, of which: 92 primary schools, 689 gymnasiums, 489 lyceums, 214 general schools, 35 schools for mental or physically handicapped children.
