Having a practice of cooperation in the domain initiated by the "Cooperation Agreement" signed in 1992 and the common desire to continue and intensify cooperation actions in the statistical field, the National Institute of Statistics of Romania and the National Bureau of Statistics signed the Protocol of Cooperation in Statistics, which covers the following areas:

• Statistical and technical infrastructure;
• Business statistics;
• Price statistics;
• Macroeconomic statistics;
• Agricultural and environmental statistics;
• Demographic and social statistics;
• Dissemination of statistical information;
• Quality management;
• Statistical training.

Cooperation is achieved through the following activities:

• exchange of experience in the field of statistical methodology and practice;
• organisation of courses, seminars, consultations, study visits and other similar activities;
• systematic exchange of statistical publications and other materials;
• carrying out joint projects in the field of statistics, including research and development, implementation of joint statistical surveys.

As a result of the cooperation of the NBS with the NSI the following results have been achieved:

• Development of the national statistical system in ensuring quality management in statistics;
• Implementation of the statistical survey "UNICA" (monthly and quarterly);
• Adjustment of the existing methodology for recording demographic events.
