From June 1 to 12 this year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is hosting a mission by an international census expert, Diana Beltadze, dedicated to providing support to the Bureau in finalizing the processing of data collected during the 2024 Population and Housing Census (PHC) regarding housing and households. These datasets are scheduled for release on June 30, in accordance with the Release Calendar.

During discussions with NBS management and specialists from the Census Directorate and other departments of the Bureau, a thorough analysis was conducted of the current progress in processing the 2024 PHC data on dwellings, households, and nuclear families. Diana Beltadze outlined the experiences of other European Union (EU) member states in processing this dataset, as well as international and European practices and recommendations in this area. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring accuracy for the final validation of data processed at the national and regional levels.

The ultimate goal of finalizing the 2024 PHC data processing, covering individuals, buildings, dwellings, and households, is to develop the NBS georeferenced database, which is built upon the geospatial component captured during the census using GIS technologies. This serves as the basis for implementing the new sampling framework for statistical household surveys, as well as for compiling PHC data at the 1 km² grid level on selected topics (at least six, in accordance with EU requirements) and their breakdowns. These data are currently being verified through the procedures related to Statistical Disclosure Control, after which they will be disseminated and transmitted to Eurostat (scheduled for the end of this year). The dissemination of this data is planned through the NBS Geoportal, which is currently being finalized.

Diana Beltadze is a member of the team of international experts who provided the Bureau with valuable advisory assistance at all stages of the preparation and implementation of the 2024 PHC, including the census data processing stage.
