Mr Oleg Cara, Director general, expressed its gratitude to EU representatives for the support provided for the development of Moldovan statistics by the European Commission, particularly through the TAIEX programme and highlighted the important contribution of this assistance in the process of the modernization of the national statistical system in line with European standards and best practices. Thus, between 2023-2025, the NBS has benefited from 14 TAIEX activities, including 11 expert missions and 3 study visits, comprising: the organization of the High-Level International Workshop on "Modern Official Statistics in the EU accession context", organized by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of Moldova in cooperation with the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), on 20-21 February 2024, in Chisinau. The event brought together more than 70 participants, from 14 countries. Currently, 8 TAIEX projects are under the preparation and 29 are planned for the next period.
In 2024-2025, Moldova has taken important steps to advance in the implementation of the European legislation in the statistical domain. Thus, with the support of EU experts, including within the TAIEX programme, the Republic of Moldova has made significant progress in the field of statistics (Chapter 18 "Statistics", which is part of Cluster 1 "Fundamental Values" of the accession negotiations of our country to the European Union), as outlined in the 2024 Moldova Progress Report as a candidate country for membership of the European Union.
Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX) is the instrument of the European Commission, which supports public administration with regard to the EU approximation, application and enforcement of EU legislation as well as facilitating the sharing of EU best practices and policies, targeted primarily towards accession countries and European Neighborhood Policy countries.
