The National Bureau of Statistics informs that the number of the usual resident population as of the reference date of the 2024 Population and Housing Census (PHC) – April 8, 2024 (according to preliminary results) was 2 401.2 thousand persons.

Compared to the 2014 Census, based on the preliminary data of the 2024 Census:

• The number of the usual resident population decreased by 13.9%;
• The share of the urban population increased from 38.5% to 46.4% (by 7.9 percentage points);
• Almost every third person with usual residence in the country lived in Chișinău municipality, compared to every fifth person in the 2014 Census.
