Evolution of consumer prices in the Republic of Moldova in June 2023
National Bureau of Statistics informs that, average consumer prices in June 2023 compared to May 2023 decreased by 0,5% (for information: in June 2022 compared to May 2022, average consumer prices increased with 2,2%).
The decrease in average consumer prices was determined by the decrease in prices of:
- food products by about 0,2%, contributing to the decrease in average consumer prices by 0,1%;
- services provided to households by 2,1%, contributing to the decrease in average consumer prices by 0,5%.
Average consumer prices of non-food goods in June 2023 compared to May 2023 increased by about 0,2%, contributing to the increase of average consumer prices by 0,1%.
In June 2023 compared to May 2023, from food products, more marked decreases in average consumer prices were registered for vegetables - by 11,7%, chicken eggs - by 4,1%, vegetable oil - by 1,1%, sugar - by 0,9%, milk and dairy products - by 0,5%. At the same time, the fruit prices increased - by 6,8%.
During the reporting period, average consumer prices of the following non-food goods increased: footwear - by 0,4%, clothing, medicines and building materials - by 0,3%.
Higher decreases in prices (tariffs) for services provided to the population in June 2023 compared to May 2023 were recorded for regulated gas supply tariffs - by 29,3%. At the same time, in June 2023 compared to May 2023 catering servicess increased - by 1,7%.
Inflation at the beginning of the year
Average consumer prices in June 2023 compared to December 2022 (from the beginning of the this year) increased by 4,4%, including food - by 4,2%, non-food goods - by 1,5% and household services - by 9,4%.
Annual inflation
Average consumer prices in June 2023 compared to June 2022 (in the last 12 months) increased by 13,2%, including food by 13,1%, non-food goods by 5,9% and household services by 25,0%.

1 The information is presented without the data on districts from the left side of the Dniester River and the municipality of Bender.
2 Table 1 includes information on the inflation rate on 3 major groups of goods and services, as well as on some representative groups, aggregated according to the national classification used to calculate the CPI:
- the major group "Food products" includes milling and bakery products, meat, meat preparations and preserves, fish and preserved fish, milk and dairy products, eggs, fats, fresh fruit, other fruit and preserves, vegetables, potatoes, sweets and spices, non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages,
- the major group "Non-food goods" includes cigarettes, fabrics, clothing, knitting, footwear, furniture, means of transport and auto parts, printed publications, fuels and fuels, other goods,
- the major group "Services" includes education and training, communal-housing services, public food, health, car repair services, transport services, other services.
3 Starting from January 2023, the CPI calculations are made using the weighting coefficients calculated on the basis of the data for the year 2021.
