National Bureau of Statistics informs that in 2018, PhD studies (cycle III) took place in 46 doctoral schools, organized in 19 higher education institutions. In 2018, the total number of PhD students was 1569 persons of which 98% (1540 persons) attended doctoral degree programs (cycle III).

Most pupils (95,3%) are studying in the educational institutions located in urban areas. This education level is required more of boys, their share is of 70,7% or of 1,9 percentage points more than in the study year 2014/15.
