The National Bureau of Statistics was certified according to the standards ISO/IEC 27 001:2013 on security and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 on the protection of personal data

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) obtained the certificates of compliance according to the standards ISO/IEC 27001:2013 on information security and ISO/IEC 27701:2019 on the protection of personal/confidential data, following the successful audits completion in the targeted areas. The ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27701 standards define the requirements for an information security and personal data protection management system, confidentiality, integrity and availability of information.

It should be noted that in order to digitize the process of producing official statistics and to reduce the information burden on respondents, ensuring information security, confidentiality and protection of personal data in accordance with national legislation (Law No. 133/2011 on the protection of personal data) and international law, especially that of the European Union (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation), is a primary necessity for the NBS.

By these certifications (in the field of "Production of official statistics"), it is confirmed that the security and data protection measures implemented, in particular, in the last period by the NBS, have reached a level at least equal to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27701 standards, having applied the best practices for planning, installation, configuration, use, maintenance of information systems, maintenance and improvement of information security and ensuring data protection.

These certifications provide additional assurance both to respondents - whose data are processed by the NBS - and to administrative and alternative (private) data holders, that the consumption and use of individual data by the NBS will be carried out in strict compliance with personal data protection and information security requirements and will serve the exclusive purpose of producing official statistics.

We note that, in order to strengthen the NBS capacities to ensure information security and the protection of personal data, the NBS benefited from the development partners support, in particular the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency in Moldova (SDC) and the United Nations Population Fund in Moldova (UNFPA).
