The National Bureau of Statistics informs that in the 2022/23 academic year, there are 21 higher education institutions, with 3 institutions less against 2021/22, as a result of the reorganization by the fusion of some public higher education institutions (Table 1A from the Annex).

The majority of higher education institutions are present in the municipality of Chisinau - 17 units (including 9 public institutions and 8 private institutions) and 1 unit each - in the municipalities of Balti, Cahul, Comrat and the city of Taraclia.

At the beginning of the 2022/23 academic year, there were 56,7 thousand students in higher education and decreased by 4,8% compared to the previous academic year. Of the total number of students, 62,7% were enrolled in full-time programmes, and 37,3% in part-time.
